According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), farming as the family enterprise represents 80% of farms globally. They play a crucial role in the economic growth of both developed and developing countries. To involve a new generation and adopt new trends, family farms must begin to transform from the traditional agricultural model into an agribusiness model. One of the highlights at IAIC 2021 was the panel discussion on Family Enterprise in Agriculture, in particular its limited structure and its problems in advanced capitalist economies.

Other highlights at IAIC2021 include trending topics in recent years: Fermentation Science and Branding for Wineries, Protein Revolution, Agri-Product International Branding, Knowledge-based Farmer and Halal Product.

The 6th International Agriculture Innovation Conference 2021 (IAIC 2021) successfully took place from 3rd to 4th September 2021. IAIC 2021 brought together over 100 global agriculture academics, researchers, leaders, specialists, and entrepreneurs from 28 universities and 32 countries to tackle some of the world’s most critical challenges, exchange ideas and explore new opportunities in and for the agriculture industry.

Climate change intensifies global warming, crop production losses driven by extreme climate and natural disasters. This year, 2020, the globe is encountered with the pandemic of COVID-19. The outbreak sees the declines and stagnation of food trading and transportation between nations in which raises the attention to the global supply chain.

Using agricultural technology that could be produced the maximum quantity of products of quality and stable agricultural products, to cope with the future volatility of the natural environment. An innovative agribusiness model that shortens the distance to market and allows consumers to buy fresh produce at reasonable prices. Investing in sustainable agriculture, with technology and innovation as the main axis is the direction of development for all countries in the post-COVID19 era.

In response to the issues, the International Association of Agricultural Sustainability (IAAS) cooperated with the Department of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Maryland, U.S.A to organizing the 2020 International Agricultural Innovation Conference in which took place from 6th to 9th November 2020. The webinar focused on topics associated with sustainable agriculture, technological agriculture, innovative agriculture and investment agriculture. Professors, scholars and experts from 26 nations attended the webinar to propose their project in developing sustainable agriculture and also share the insights from various perspectives.

The 4th International Agriculture Innovation Conference (IAIC 2019) was being held in Oulu, Finland from 7th to 9th August, with the post-tour on 10th August. IAIC 2019 was organized by the IAAS, University of Oulu and APAARI.

On the first day, the business owners and experts from Aisa and Arctic have shared their experiences on operating the business in domestic markets. On the second day of the conference, the specialists from Finland, America, Norway, UK, Spain, Poland, New Zealand, Singapore, Bengal, Thailand, and Taiwan, etc., were invited to present and share their point of views on Agricultural Innovation, Sustainability and Agribusiness, and Entrepreneurship. The third day, professors and students from all over the world had the extremely brilliant and inspiring presentations and discussions about the topics of Agriculture Technology, Agriculture Globalization, Agriculture Sustainability, and Blockchain. After the conference, the guests and participants went to the Edible-insects Showroom, to discover the new technology and resources. Then planned the IAIC tree at Pyhäjärvi. The participants also went to the local berry farm to enjoy the fresh berries and local food products.

The 3rd International Agriculture Innovation Conference was held in Beijing, China on 12th and 13th October 2017 and we are pleased to have APAARI and Zhongnong Futong as the organiser with IAAS this year.

Extending the topic from the previous year, we keep researching and discussing the topics: Agriculture Innovation, Agriculture Technology and Agriculture Globalisation phenomenon. Experts, scholars and researchers from China, Finland, Norway, UK, Poland, India, Indonesia, Netherlands, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan, etc., delivered presentations in which specifically focused on the supply chain, industrial agriculture and agribusiness.

The keynote speaker – Prof. Mao-Hua Wang, the professor of College of Information & Electrical Engineering at China Agricultural University (CAU), China recognised the potential development of informationization on agriculture and delivered the speech topic: The Innovative Development of Informationization on Agriculture.

Prof. SC Lenny Koh, the chair professor of operation management at Sheffield University, UK revealed the importance of the agrifood system and supply chain’s current and future issues. On the other hand, Prof. Wee Liang Tan, the associate professor of strategic management at Singapore Management University emphasised the challenges of developing New Agri-tech Ventures Supplying “Safe” Food.

The second day, the business owners, professors, and students from all over the world had the extremely brilliant and inspiring presentations and discussions about the topics of Agriculture Technology, Agriculture Globalization and Cross-border E-commerce, Agriculture Business Operation, and International Agriculture Festivals. After the conference, the guests and participants went to the Beijing International Urban Agricultural Science and Technology Park, to experience the newest farming technology. 2017 International Agriculture Innovation Conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand

2017 International Agriculture Innovation Conference was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 18th and 19th October 2017. This year, the conference was organised by both the Chinese Institute Education Development and Vital Wellspring, and with support from joint-organisers: University of Maryland, U.S.A., University of Oulu, Finland, Eastern Michigan University, U.S.A., University of Otago, New Zealand, Halmstad University, Sweden, University of Vigo, Spain, China Agricultural University, China, Andalas University, Indonesia, Singapore Management University, Singapore and National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan.

In order to improve the current agriculture circumstance and attain environmental sustainability, agriculture innovation has become the primary strategy nowadays toward achieving the goals. Also, responding to the current trend of the information age, this year, we are moving the special topic of cross-border e-commerce in agriculture sectors.

The special speech was delivered by the vice president of Laos – Mr. Meck Panlacl and the director-general of prime minister’s office – Mr. Kongkeo Vongpaseuth with the speech topic: Policy of Agricultural Development in Laos.

Dr. Cheng-I Wei, director of the International Program in Agriculture & Natural Resource at the University of Maryland and Dr. Pamela Rae Becker, Professor of Technology Management at Easter Michigan University talked about the environmental sustainability with the utilisation of agricultural innovation.

Dr. Miranda Mirosa, the senior Lecturer of Department of Food Science at the University of Otago, Dr. Kothandapani Ganesh, the senior knowledge experts and global lead at Mckinsey Inc. & Company, Dr. Tan Wee Liang, the professor of strategic management at the Singapore Management University and Dr. Tzong Ru Lee, Professor of Marketing Department, National Chung Hsing University focused on the discussion of new agricultural techniques and theories: agribusiness, new internet marketing strategy and big data.

2016 International Agriculture Innovation Conference in Taichung, Taiwan
