Successful Conclusion of IAAS AquaNexus Event in Dhaka, Bangladesh

The International Association for Agricultural Sustainability (IAAS) AquaNexus event at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Dhaka, Bangladesh, concluded successfully on 8 October 2024. Supported by the Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF), the event was themed “Pioneering the Future of Sustainable Aquaculture Through Technology, Innovation, and Industry Partnerships“.
During the event, IAAS and BSFF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking a significant step in formalizing their collaboration on aquaculture. The agreement will prioritize training, research collaboration, internships, and capacity building in sustainable aquaculture.
Syed Mahmudul Huq, Chairman of the Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF), underscored the necessity of adopting climate-resilient strategies for Bangladesh’s coastal regions. He emphasized the country’s vulnerability to climate change, particularly its effects on the livelihoods of those involved in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock along the 710 km coastal belt.
Dr. Lee Chee Wee, Chairman of IAAS, delivered a keynote speech titled “Aquaculture Business Opportunities: A Singapore Perspective and the IAAS AquaNexus Initiative in Bangladesh.” In his presentation, he outlined Singapore’s ambitious aquaculture targets, which aim to produce 500 tons of fish and 250 tons of shrimp per hectare by 2030 and emphasized the potential for adapting Marine Tilapia and Mud Crab aquaculture technologies for Bangladesh’s coastal regions.
In 2024, IAAS has developed a new platform that fosters a vibrant and sustainable food production ecosystem among investors, academics, and agribusiness Specialist. This initiative encompasses three categories: AgriNexus, AquaNexus, and FoodNexus. IAAS has commenced the implementation of these platforms in various countries.
